Another Loy Kratong in Cambodia

Nov'2010 The first thing I did read this morning was that the Loy Kratong festival in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) had a very tragic ending where more as 300 people died in a stampede on the bridge to Diamond Island.

The festival is a huge party in Cambodia and many city people leave Phnom Penh but "millions" of people from upcountry come to the city to celebrate Loy Kratong which also marks the end of the raining season (and for that the change of Tongle Sap lake). It is a 3 days festival with music, boot races and a lot of people. At the moment we do not know what happened, but for some reason a stampede emerged while thousands of people were crossing the river on that small bridge. The reports are shocking. According to Hua Sen "the worst tragedy since Pol Pot". See Phnom_Penh_stampede
