Happy New Year & Sawadee Phi Mai 2011

I hope all of you had a great New Years Party and hopefully 2011 will be even better as 2010.
But let not forget that the past year was a turbulent year for Thailand, let's hope it was not all for nothing. 2011? Well not in Thailand as here they are far ahead of time and living in 2554! According to Buddhist countries live starts at the birth of Lord Buddha. And actually Buddhist Thailand holds a lunar  calendar where the new year start at Song Kran (14 April). But as Thai love a good party they celebrate also western new year and Chinese new year. So every year 3 New Years in Thailand! An other thing at how Thai celebrate New Year on 31 December is to give each other a present. Each person coming on the New Years party has a present and somewhere along the evening a kind of lottery is made to give away all the presents (of course you can not draw your own present). This is the way we had New Years party last night at the house of a Dutch friend with some other people, a lot kids and of course a lot of food and booze. And of course the presents. So I am now the proud owner of a new pillow.
