Staying at Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in Pattaya

Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in Pattaya, Thailand
June'2011 A long name for a big hotel with about 550 rooms in two 19 floor high buildings along Wong Amat beach in Pattaya (or actually Naklua). That sounds a bit not so cozy, right? Well that is what I also always thought. And the room prices are not cheap. But ...... I changed my mind. Wong Amat beach is one of the only nice beaches of Pattaya and just out of the crowded city that Pattaya has become. See Centara GMBR Pattaya

We stayed at the "Club Mirage" and although same in size as the Deluxe Ocean View or Premium Deluxe the decoration and the bathroom are much better. And within the package we had the room price including the Mirage Club extras the price was actually very good. Within our package was free WiFi, but be aware that in other packages you might have to pay about 500 Thai baht/day for Internet access. The bathroom has an open bathtub and a separate rain shower.  And the room had a good size balcony to overlook Wong Amat bay and Pattaya bay from the 18th floor. And good dark curtains to keep the room dark in the morning, only a bit sad that sun-light under the front door the shine in the room. We had some problems with the WiFi but that was promptly taken care of. Good service!

We enjoyed our lunch snacks, evening finger snack and breakfast at the Club Mirage lounge at the 12th floor. All staff in the hotel was friendly and service minded. I did read very negative reports about the staff but if these reports have been true then the management of this hotel did the almost impossible. Job well done Sir!

The room price might seem a bit high, but this hotel is much more as just a hotel with not only 4 restaurants and 2 lounge bars but it also has a huge water-park with 3 swimming pools and a "lazy river" for your "Viang Vang Tubing" experience. For people with kids not only the swimming pool is great but there are also inside and outside playing grounds with always staff to take care your kids. And in the evening we enjoyed the 'Braselian Samba Show" in the lobby.

All the good things said it must be said that eating a-la-cart is expensive at any of their restaurants and drinks along the pool are also not cheap. Mini-bar price on the other hand are not so expensive, I have seen much worse. And one other thing is the front-desk. Although friendly staff, there is simply not much staff to serve you. And both with check-in or check-out I have not seen any bell-boy to take care our luggage.
