On the motorbike to Bo Klua in Nan
After a simple breakfast at our hotel in Nan we left for a day-trip loop north of Nan. First we took route 1080 in northern direction to Pua. The first part is a nice twisty road but the last 20 km up-to Pua are a bit straight and boring. At Pua follow the signs for the PTT gasoline station (only 7/11, no Amazon).
About here the road changes into route 1081 in direction of Bo Kluea (and Phu Fa). This is an amazing beautiful road on top of a ridge overlooking great valleys. And at this time of the year it was like riding at autumn in Europe with beautiful trees and views. There were about 2 hick-ups when there was some road construction going on but for the rest it was a brand new fantastic road.
At one point there is a road going to the right to Phu Fa (route 1257). I took this road as a short side-track and came back again to route 1081 after a u-turn. This route 1257 is not in such a good condition as route 1081 but looking on Google Earth it is a promising track for our next trip.
Bo Kluea is Thai famous for its "one and only water-well / mountain salt pit". When you are entering Bo Kluea take the south entrance of the village and then the salt pit is at your right hand side after about 100 meter. It is small and a tourist attraction. After another 50 meter is a very nice Coffee Shop.
