The Consulate of Laos moved to a brand new building along Mittraphap road, opposite of Tesco/Lotus-Extra.

Of course you can get your Lao visa at most borders, and maybe even a bit cheaper. But that also means waiting in a cue. So save some time and get it in Khon Kaen when you are there.

They are open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 - 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00

Service is quick and efficient. Just fill in the application form at the desk, give your passport with 1 pass-photo and the required visa fee. And within 5 to 10-min you ready and set to go.


The fee for the tourist-visa depends on your country of origin and is originally charged in US$. But the consulate here wants Thai Baht. And they use their own exchange rate. For Canadians its is 1.700 THB and for Belgium's or Dutch it is 1.400 THB. That is excluded the 200 THB express fee of course, otherwise you will have to pick it up the next working day.

Surprisingly even with the current exchange rate of the US$ the price in THB is still the same.
