Traveling Beyond the Highlights and Discovering the heritage of the ancient Khmer Kingdom

Traveling Beyond the Highlights "Discovering the heritage of the ancient Khmer Kingdom"

The Greater Khmer Kingdom stretched out over big parts of what we now call Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. In the North-East of Thailand (also called the Isaan) are many remains to be found of the once mighty and rich Khmer Kingdom. Spread all over the Isaan you can find ruins of beautiful Khmer temples and hospitals as part of the ancient Dharmasal route from Ankor Wat to Phimai. This journey will lead you along ruins of ancient temple complexes with amazing Khmer art and design and a touch of modern life in Thailand combined with Isaan culture & history. The most famous are of course Prasat Hin Phanom Rung near Buriram and Prasat Pi Mai near Nakhon Ratchasima. And from the Thai border near Ubon Ratchathani you can visit Prasat Preah Viharn in Cambodia. Depending on how much you want to see a trip like this can be done in 3 to 6 days.
