Traveling from Kanchanaburi to Chiang Mai we traveled via Ayuthaya, the former capital city of Siam as Thailand was named before 1932. In and around the nowadays modern city of Ayuthaya are many century old temples of what we did visit 2. And Iin the evening we took the night train to Chiang Mai. In Ayuthaya you still see the famous old TukTuk's, a Daihatsu Midget from the sixties of the last century.
I love to ride bicycle in the early morning, but in the raining season I skip that. But since a few days it are again beautiful & dry mornings in Pua in Nan province, North Thailand. So I leave home just before sunrise and make a small loop riding between the rice fields and make a stop at the Wat Phuket. Photo's are all made at this temple. For more information about the beautiful Nan province see Traveling 2 Nan - Thailand.
At a early morning we did drive thru Phrae and besides many beautiful old teak wooden houses be aware that there are many traffic camera's in Phrae town. Our first stop was at Baan Wichairacha, build in 2423 (1880). Unfortunately I could not walk around the house but behind the main building are more old style wooden buildings. And on the left side are unfortunately some modern shophouses that are somehow decorated in a style to match the old teak wooden house. Our second stop was at Baan Chao Nan Chaiwong, that is under renovation and for that reason closed until the end of this year. A last photo from an old style house of what I am not sure if it is actually old. The roof looks modern and brand new. If you like old architecture then Phrae is a must go place!
As part of Living in Thailand, the Rice Field Project follows our journey of buying land and preparing it for building our house. This is part 21, to read the other parts click Rice Field Project.
Last week we did sign an official Design Contract in what we officially give the order to design our house. That sounds a bit weird as we are already about 2 months busy with the design of our to be house. So why? Well until now it was just the floor plan and the roof type. Now at the next stage of design the full design papers will be made incl. all the be used materials and prices. This is a lot of work and they want to be sure that we will pay for that. Pay? Well yes and no. Within the building contract we will have free design of the house but of course it is not free. So we now pay 20.000 Thai baht for the design (architect) and that money we get back after paying the first deposit for the building.
The planning is that within the end of this month (September 2018) the full design will…
While I was in Chiang Rai in North Thailand I had lunch with a friend who is living in Chiang Rai. And as he is very knowledgeable about temples, Buddhism and art we did visit 2 less visited temples in Chiang Rai town. First the Wat Ming Muang and later the Wat Phra Kaew that houses also a beautiful museum in a teak wooden building. Both temples are in Chiang Rai town, near the Golden Clock Tower round-about. The photo above and the following first 4 photos under are from the Wat Ming Muang. The photos following after are from the Wat Phra Kaew.
The Cliff & River Jungle Resort is located right between the limestone mountains of Khao Sok, within 10km from the entrance of Khao Sok National Park. The resort has wooden bungalows in a huge tropical garden. All rooms have TV, Air-conditioning, open-air bathroom with shower, fridge and private balcony. The hotel also has an swimming pool. When we arrived here it was unfortunately raining already for more as 24hrs, but otherwise it is a wonderful place to stay. For more information see Facebook page of The Cliff & River Jungle Resort. Of course this hotel can be booked via AGODA.
Enjoying some delicious chocolates from The Chocolate Factory while sitting at their riverside garden and watching the sunset. I love sunsets! And also chocolates (highly recommended!). For the smart people .... I am NOT looking in the direction where the sun sets, as that would be behind me.
Photo above is how Chaweng road did look in 1991 but that is not how it looks nowadays! Chaweng road did transform to road filled with hotels, shops, restaurants, massage saloons and scooter rental shops. There even is an huge Central Shopping Mall! There are so much buildings that you do not see anything of the beach anymore. Following are some photos I made while I was walking there in disbelieve. What happend to paradise?
While sitting in the shade of the Bikini Bar & Restaurant and enjoying a fruit shake I was looking to all the people sitting in the hot sun. I think I would be dead within 30min. But people seem to enjoy themselves sunbathing, swimming or making selfies. It is beach life in 2018 at Lamai beach.
Anantaya Home is located about 500m from route 101 at the south side of Phrae, for us traveling by car a very convenient location. Just a 5min drive into Phrae town and nearby restaurants. Officially it is called Anantaya Home Organic Farm & Resort. All rooms have bathroom with bathtub (but a bit small) and separated shower, Air-conditioning, TV and fridge. Anantaya Home offers private parking, free wifi and bicycles. Anantaya Home also has a restaurant & coffee shop where they serve besides a simple but good breakfast also lunch and dinner. We loved our stay here, our room was clean and comfortable. When checking in the staff was welcoming and friendly. For more information see Facebook page of Anantaya Home.
