A stop-over in Kratie in Cambodia

View over the Mekong River in Kratie, Cambodia

Reposting about traveling in Cambodia in 2013. As travelling all the way from Mondulkiri (Sen Monorom) to Ratanakiri (Ban Lung) was a bit too much for 1 day, a 1 night stop-over was made in Kratie, a provincial small city along the mighty Mekong River. And as we arrived early in the afternoon I had some time to walk around the little city and trying to get lost. If you have a day to spare in Kratie make an bicycle tour over the "Koh Trong" island in the Mekong river to see real Cambodian upcountry life. You could even stay overnight on the island. Kratie is an older town with some French colonial buildings, as while walking in the small streets I saw this "Restaurant & Dancing" building now in function as barber-shop and living-room. When you arrive in Kratie you will be dropped of at the central bus-station next to the market in the centre of town (see last photo).
