Travel Tips : Rail road service from Uttaradit to Chiang Mai temporarily suspended

From 16 September until 31 October 2013 the train service between Uttaradit and Chiang Mai will be temporarily suspended to carry out maintenance work after 13 derailments this year only on that part of the rail road.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) issued this message and said there will be bus service between Uttaradit and Chiang Mai. When travelling with the night train it might be a bit uncomfortable to be re-routed to the bus in the middle of the night. So I would be looking for other options. Like travelling the all way by bus, taking the airplane or take the bus and make a stop-over in Tak, Sukhothai or Phitsanulok.

Personally I am having my doubts that 6 weeks of work are enough to fix all the problems on this stretch of railroad from 1922 "so there will be no more derailments anymore". But well This Is Thailand. Please be noticed that this does NOT affect any other train travelling in Thailand!
