Visiting the beautiful old city of Phrae

Phrae National Museum in Phrae, North Thailand

On the way to Nan I did visit Phrae, a provincial city in the north of Thailand. Famous for the best quality wood from Thailand, although nowadays I assume the wood is coming from somewhere else. It is a small city with an old historic centre with temples and some colonial buildings. The nearby area are mostly rice fields with in a short distance beautiful lime stone karst mountains. In the evening there is a food market in the old centre. A lovely small city to go around on your bicycle in the early morning or late afternoon. In and around Phrae are some hotels and in the city are many restaurants and pubs. A nice place for 1 or 2 nights stop-over to go more north along the beautiful mountains, rivers and valley's.
