Road Condition Update : Northern Thailand

Date : October 2013 : Roads in South East Asia do not always look so nice and good as in this photo. And even when they do this month, a few weeks of rain can change that road in one big disaster. Landslides, rock falling, disappearing roads and other dangerous road conditions are common. So always expect the unexpected! Road conditions vary from day to day!

*Route 12 from Chumpae to Lomsak via Nam Nao is in very good condition, no serious landslides or rock falling.

*Route 12 from Lomsak to Phitsanulok is being re-constructed to 4 lanes and this results in dangerous road parts. This part should NOT be driven at night or in the rain! Construction work will continue for the next years!

*Route 11 from Phitsanulok to Den Chai and route 101 from Den Chai to Nan are all in very good condition. No signs of damaged road or landslides.

*Route 1081 coming from Santisuk to Bo Klua is mostly in good condition with a few parts damaged by landslides. Road construction is being done at the moment.

*Route 1256 from Bo Klua to Pua is mostly in good condition but with a few very bad parts due to landslides. No road construction is going on at the moment. This part should not be driven at night or in the rain.

*Route 1080 from Pua to Nan is in very good condition, although on the last 20 km there is road re-construction going on.

*Route 1091 from Nan to Chiang Muan and route 1251 to Phayao are in good condition, no serious landslides or rock falling.

*Route 120 from Phayao to Wiang Pao and route 118 to Chiang Mai are in very good condition, no serious landslides or rock falling.
