Taking the train to Chiang Mai in North Thailand .... updateted!!

Dec'2013 After many derailments along the northern train line, from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, the line was partly closed for maintenance. But I was informed by friends that starting from today (2 December 2013) the northern line is in full service again!

And it looks like the maintenance has been done properly and travelling by train will be safe again. So get your train-ticket for a great trip with the night-train (sleeper) to/from Chiang Mai. I love travelling by train. See Rail Asia

Update : OK Sorry the first passengers train (with the big boss of the SRT) derailed while leaving Lamphun station. Of course it was "just human error of the station-master" so not worry. Actually not worry at all as nobody died or was hurt. Has this become that the new standard for train travelling in Thailand?
