One night in Uttaradit

View over Uttaradit
Our first stop to Nan was in Uttaradit, where we did also stay overnight. Uttaradit is along the shores of the Nan river (Mae nam Nan) surrounded by mountains and is historically famous as transition place for wood coming via the river from the north.  Nowadays it is provincial town with a big university with many rice fields around it. A few km's west of Uttaradit is a small village that is famous for its market and the village center is still unchanged since 50 years with old Chinese shop-houses. A great area to make a small bicycle trip.

Old train in Uttaradit - Thailand
Uttaradit is also along the northern railroad going to Chiang Mai and at the train station is parked a old German locomotive that was in service in Thailand from 1928 to 1962.

Starting from Uttaradit the railroad goes into the lush jungle of the mountains and small villages will be passing by as well as small train stations that look like a museum (but are still in use). I love traveling by train!
