Ancient city of Lopburi in Thailand in 1997 |
People ask me sometimes "How did you get in Thailand?" and I answer "By airplane". But in reality it was a bit more complex, so I did write some postings about that. Follow this story at
Blast from the past. In
1997 we took a sabbatical year and travelled for 6 months in South East Asia. Of course we made a lot of planning, but in the end we just did what did looked best at that moment. Actually the plan was to travel for 1 year, but after 6 months we did get the travel blues and returned home. For me this was the beginning of the end of my life in Europe. We started in Bangkok and did travel to Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos. Then we travelled to Hanoi and Halong Bay in Vietnam. Then we returned back to Bangkok again to travel to Penang, KL and Malacca in Malaysia. From there we made a stop-over in Singapore to travel to Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sulawesi and Ambon in Indonesia. Again via Singapore we returned to Bangkok to travel to Kanchanaburi, Koh Samui, Lopburi, Lampang, Sukhothai and Chiang Mai. Following is small selection of photos of traveling in 1997 & 1998 in South East Asia.
