The local rice-mill in our village in Nan

Producing rice in Thailand

This is where it all starts in 1 of the 3 small rice-mills in our village. The people here produce their own rice from their own rice-field for their own consumption. And for some people in the village that do not have rice-fields. The rice goes in at one side and clean edible rice come out at the other side. There are 2 rest products in the process (husk and bran layers) Both are used again. The rice-mill is run by an gasoline engine. In the old days there would be steam-machines and until a few years ago there were still a few of those steam-machines in working order in Thailand. Following are more photos about the process of making rice. For more information about processing rice see Milling Rice. For more information about the beautiful Nan province see Destination Travel Guide Nan province, North Thailand.
