Cooking school in the jungle of Khao Sok

Khao Sok is home to a beautiful limestone mountain range with a tropical jungle and a huge lake and rivers. A great place to go hiking and kayaking. But what to do when it is raining? Well you go for jungle cooking lessons at Rungfah Farm Stay what is located in the jungle of Khao Sok. A young local man and his family have setup an ecological farm stay and cooking school. Here you can learn the traditional jungle way of making Thai food. And of course they have 2 very basic bamboo bungalows where you could stay. But we did go for cooking lessons.

So we started with walking around at the farm to collect the food that we would be cooking like fresh bamboo sprouts, duck eggs, herbs and vegetables. Then to begin with our host Yu starts to make a small fire to cook the rice in bamboo containers. We did learn how to remove the coconut from the nuts and our coconut curry was cooked on a small BBQ. Staying at Kim An Hotel in Hoi An, Vietnam

While traveling 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I did stay 2 days in Hoi An and stayed at Kim An Hotel, located about 2 km from the Old Town. The hotel is also known as Kiman Hoi An Hotel & Spa. Although the rooms are a bit basic they offer TV, Air-conditioning, mini-bar, free drinking water and private bathroom with shower. The hotel offers swimming pool, a good breakfast buffet, massage & spa and free use of bicycles. Staff was always friendly. For more information see Kiman Hoi An Hotel & Spa.

Opposite the hotel is a very good Spa & Massage (and laundry shop) called "Orange", the lady owner speaks very well English. On the right side of the hotel (when exiting the hotel) is a good (and cheap) supermarket. Opposite about 100m is a simple but good Vietnamese restaurant.

Getting lost in Hoi An, Vietnam

While traveling 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I made first a bit touristic city walking tour in Hoi An and the next day I tried to get lost myself in Hoi An. First I took a bicycle of the hotel (free of charge) to go in direction of the Old Town. There are many places where you can park your bicycle for 5.000 VND. From there I just followed my nose. Following are some photos I took while getting lost in Hoi An.

Staying at Muong Thanh Hotel in Dong Hoi, Vietnam

While traveling 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I did stay 1 night at the Muong Thanh Hotel in Dong Hoi in Central Vietnam. The hotel is located right along the beach, where the Nhat Le River exists into the sea. The hotel as about 300 rooms all comfortable with TV, Air-conditioning, Private bathroom with shower, mini-bar and free drinking water. The hotel offers a restaurant for breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner, as well as private parking and a swimming pool. All staff in the hotel was friendly and service minded. A tropical beach in Halong Bay, Vietnam

As part of 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I booked a 1 day & 1 night cruise to Halong Bay and while exploring Halong Bay we would visit "tropical beach to relax and enjoy a sunset" but in reality it was a overcrowded beach full with Chinese & Korean day-time tourists. Although must be said we arrived at about 17:00, maybe arriving earlier or later would have given the beach for ourselves. So I enjoyed watching people instead of taking a dip in the sea.

Staying at Le Duy Grand Hotel in Saigon, Vietnam

While traveling 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I did stay 3 days in Saigon and found Le Duy Grand Hotel a great hotel to stay in Saigon. Not located in the tourist area but in the real local Vietnamese streets of Ho Chi Min City. Staff was always smiling, friendly and service minded. All rooms have private bathroom with bathtub with shower, TV, air-conditioning, mini-bar and free drinking water. The hotel offers a small swimming pool and a great breakfast buffet. And although hardly used the hotel has a rooftop garden on the 13th floor from where you have a great sunset view (but take your own drinks with you). Highly recommended! Near the hotel are ATM's, banks, restaurants, supermarket and a few pubs. Beer lover should have a look at Bia Craft Artisan Ales (about 500m from the hotel). About 100m from the hotel is Highlands Coffee, Vietnamese biggest coffee chain and serving besides coffee also cakes and snacks. Opposite of the hotel …

Communist propaganda at the Vietnamese Women Museum in Hanoi, Vietnam

As part of 3 weeks Relaxed Vietnam I did visit the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi. The museum is located near the famous Hoan Kiem Lake. The museum is dedicated to the Vietnamese women, without whom the Communist Revolution of Vietnam would have never succeed. The stated mission of the museum is "to enhance public knowledge and understanding of history and cultural heritage of Vietnamese women... thus contributing to promoting gender equality". Following are some photos I took of the many communist style propaganda posters.
