Travel Tips : Travel light

An travel tip in general that I suddenly realised while planning my upcoming trip. I like to travel light, example when I go motorbike riding I always just have 1 weekend bag with me. My upcoming trip flying with Air Asia was not expensive because I booked it without check-in luggage. Mind you that would have cost me 32% of the airfare I am now paying! And in this case not a big problem as I am only on the road for 6 days. So I will have a max. of 7kg carry on luggage with me. So I picked up my small travel suitcase with wheels and realised that even the empty suitcase is already not really light. To be exactly 3.4 kg! So I switched to my weekend bag that only weights 1 kg. Lesson : Next time when buying a suitcase check the weight!

What I take with me?
  • Only 1 charger for both telephone & camera
  • Limited toiletries as it will be carry on luggage
  • Limited cloths as I will stay longer at 1 place and can do laundry if needed.
All other things that I might need can be bought on the way. Like an umbrella, I have umbrella's from all over South East Asia. I also check that I do not take with mee documents that I not need like my driver license or member cards. But I do take with me an extra ATM card in case the other stops working. And an small card with emergency telephone numbers in case I lose my telephone.

When reading on internet forums about what people take with them when going to travel for a few weeks I am surprised about what they all take with them. Make it easy on yourself and travel light!
