Farming in Nan

Sowing rice fields in Pua, Nan -Thailand

While traveling around in my home area in Nan province, North Thailand I has seen a few times already this tool. But never close by and I was always wondering what it was. Seeing it now close by confirmed what I was thinking already .... it is an home-made tool for sowing the rice seeds. Made from a PVC water-pipe with small holes and 2 wheels. They put the rice seeds in the PVC pipe and then it is pushed over the rice field. And the small seeds will be sowed! Cheap, light and easy to use. In the old days this was done by hand and you would need more people to do a big piece of land. But as nowadays they young people are working in cities there are not enough people anymore to work on the rice fields.
