The bus from Nan to Luang Prabang, Laos
June 2019 : As you know
since 2017 there is a
bus connection from
Nan to
Luang Prabang via
Huai Kon International Border Crossing. Originally this service was done with 2 busses so there was every day a bus going from Nan to Luang Prabang and every day a bus going from Luang Prabang to Nan. But due to an accident with one of the busses and later technical problems there is at the moment only 1 bus used. That means
every 4 days there is a bus going from Nan to Luang Prabang (en visa-versa of course). So on 21 June 2019 a bus goes from Nan to Luang Prabang and on 25 June 2019 the next bus is going from Nan to Luang Prabang. And on 29 June 2019 the next bus. And at in between dates the bus goes from Luang Prabang to Nan.
New route from Nan to Luang Prabang, Laos
June 2019 : Traveling from
Nan to
Luang Prabang by car was always done by driving via
route 101 from Nan to
Huai Kon and then cross the border to
Hong Sa in
Laos. From there one would take
route 4A to
Xaraboury and from there
route 4 to
Luang Prabang. But since many years they were building a new, shorter route in Laos from Hong Sa to Luang Prabang via
route 4B. And officially that new 114 km long road has been openend in
June 2019. It is supposed to bring back the travel time from 9 hours to 5 hours. See also
