Tables ready for food & drink along the Mekong River in Bueng Kan

Traveling in Thailand

In 2012 I was on my motorbike riding along the Mekong River and made a stop-over in Bueng Kan. And i in de evening I walked along the river-front of the Meanam Khong (Mekong River). Many small restaurants were setting up for the evening to serve food & drink. Bueng Kan thanks its existence to the ferry-crossing to Laos (Pakxan) what is an international border crossing point. Although there is an immigration office in town the real ferry crossing for people is about 2 km west of town. And the ferry crossing for cars and motorbikes is another 2 km west. This ferry is the international border crossing to Laos. I like the little town of Bueng Kan what did gives me feeling of how Chiang Khan must have been about 10 years ago. Although the first signs of over-developments are to be seen already. There are a few hotels like "Mae Nam Hotel" (right on the river-front) and "The One Hotel" (a brand new hotel near Tesco-Lotus). And I am sure more will follow soon.

One night in Bangkok and the world is your oyster

The journey of Traveling 2 Thailand did begin with One Night in Bangkok in 1985 and since 2009 it became a personal non-commercial travel blog as inspiration for traveling & motorbike riding in Thailand. Made just for the sheer love of traveling and sharing experience about traveling in South-East Asia. To travel beyond the beaten track & highlights. Enjoy!
