A day trip to Voeune Sai, Cambodia

A day trip to Voeune Sai, Cambodia

In 2013 I was staying in Ban Luang in Ratanakiri province and I made a day-trip on a rented scooter. From Ban Lung it is about 35 km to Voeune Sai along the banks of the "Tonle San", from where you can cross the river by ferry to Virachey to go trekking in the 'Wildlife Sanctuary". Heading north from Ban Lung the first 10 km is a good road until you get at an Y-section, where you take a left and that is where the dusty (or muddy) roads begins that leads all the way to Voeune Sai. The roads goes mostly over flat country-side land, but also passes a part of left-over jungle where you can still see some of the local hill-tribes living and working. The road leads all the way to the market next to ferry landing, where also is an small restaurant. From here you can rent a boat to make an boat-trip over the river and visit remarkable cemeteries. The ferry is made of 4 small boats with 1 little ... very small outboard motor. The all crowd gathers on the ferry and waits until the ferry is ready for leaving. Both east & west of the village dusty roads lead along the river, but they are leading basically to nowhere. Following are some photo I took while traveling.

One night in Bangkok and the world is your oyster

The journey of Traveling 2 Thailand did begin with One Night in Bangkok in 1985 and since 2009 it became a personal non-commercial travel blog as inspiration for traveling & motorbike riding in Thailand. Made just for the sheer love of traveling and sharing experience about traveling in South-East Asia. To travel beyond the beaten track & highlights. Enjoy!
