Making Coffee the old fashioned way at Base 29 Coffee Shop along route 1081

Traveling in Thailand

Along route 1081 between Bo Klua and Santisuk is a coffee shop called Base 29 with a stunning view over the mountains. But you should not be in a hurry as the shop does not have electricity so every cup of coffee is freshly made on the stove. The old fashioned way. All made and served by this lovely couple. According to the Thai way of writing this place is actually called 29 Base Coffee Shop, but to make it easier to understand in English lets call it Base 29 Coffee Shop. Located right along route 1081 when going from Bo Klua to Santisuk but technically within Pua district. Coming from Bo Klua about 3 km before Ban Nam Yao and only 29 km from Pua. The name refers to an old army camp that was 29 km from Ban Nam Yao (what was an refuge camp). The owners are a friendly couple from Ban Nam Yao who will serve you a great cup of coffee. In the cool season you can even stay overnight (camping) and enjoy and stunning sunrise over the mountains of Doi Phu Kha. Highly recommended! For more information about Nan province see Destination Travel Guide Nan.

Update January 2021 : Base 29 has upgraded and is now also camping & homestay.

Traveling in Thailand

One night in Bangkok and the world is your oyster

The journey of Traveling 2 Thailand did begin with One Night in Bangkok in 1985 and since 2009 it became a personal non-commercial travel blog as inspiration for traveling & motorbike riding in Thailand. Made just for the sheer love of traveling and sharing experience about traveling in South-East Asia. To travel beyond the beaten track & highlights. Enjoy!
