In 2018 I was in Den Chai and made some photos of this lovely train station. I love traveling by train, especially in Thailand where it is like traveling in time. It is like an open-air museum. Not only the trains itself but also the train stations. They look like they have not changed since they build the first railroad lines in Thailand in 1889. This is the train station of Den Chai, a class 1 train station about 530 km north in Bangkok in Phrae province along the line Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Previous major train station is Uttaradit, next major train station is Lampang. Den Chai train station is not a beautiful old style station and was once planned to become the junction for the line to Chiang Rai. Until now 2018 that has never materialised. But that plan is again in the pipe-line (see last photo). If you like old Thai train stations then hurry up and visit them all as modernisation is destroying beautiful history! Update 2021 : The line from Den Chai to Chiang Rai seems to be approved although the chosen route looks a bit weird. Why not make the line from Lampang to Chiang Rai along route 1?
