Visiting the Wat Khao Sukim in Chanthaburi province

Traveling in Thailand

As a day trip from Hat Chao Lao we did visit the Wat Khao Sukim, on a hill near Khao Khitchakut and a 40 km one way trip from hat Chao Lao. This area is full of durian and jack-fruit plantations and when driving there you start to realize the magnitude of the tropical fruit business in Chanthaburi. The Wat Khao Sukim was build in 1966 to become meditation center and houses a huge collection of Buddha images. As the temple is build on a hill there are stairs to walk up but luckily there is also a kind of cable car going up.  Besides the huge collection of Buddha images something else caught my eye .... 2 stretched Mercedes "made" by Trasco International. These were luxury cars made by Mercedes and transformed to longer and super luxury cars by Trasco International. Both cars are probably from end 1980 or begin 1990. And you wonder ... how did they end-up at a temple in Chanthaburi? Donated by wealthy Thai? For more information see A Guide to Coastline of Chanthaburi.

The journey of Traveling 2 Thailand did begin with One Night in Bangkok in 1985 and since 2009 it became a personal non-commercial travel blog as inspiration for traveling & motorbike riding in Thailand. Made just for the sheer love of traveling and sharing experience about traveling in South-East Asia. To travel beyond the beaten track & highlights. Enjoy!
