In 2022 we did again escape the burning season of North Thailand and made a 1 week holiday trip to Hat Chao Lao in Chanthaburi. When we arrived it was a bit clouded and at night we even had some rain. The next day my wife wanted to eat seafood of course and what better place to go to as Ao Yang beach? So we made a small trip along the coast, but first we did pass Ao Yang and took the famous Taksin Maharaj Bridge to Laem Sing. This is a high bridge crossing the point where the Chanthaburi River is discharged in the Gulf of Thailand, in Thai actually called Paknam Laem Sing. And on the highest point of the bridge is a kind of viewpoint where you can park your car. From here you have a stunning view over de mangroves of the Chanthaburi River (see photo above). And of course this would not be Thailand if there would not be someone selling drinks and/or food. This is where my wife always buys a fresh coconut drink, made straight from a coconut. At Laem Sing are 2 points of intrest, first the Tuek Deang (Red Building), a colonial French military building from 1893. And the old French Prison, called Khuk Khi Kai because on top of the prisoners were chickens living. After a short visit to Laem Sing we did return to go to Ao Yang. It is a small beach at a small bay and there are only 2 hotels now but more important there are 3 very good seafood restaurants! I think at the beach side is actually nobody living, so there is no village.
This was our third or maybe even fourth visit to
Ao Yang. I especially like the vibes here, like Koh Samui was 30 years ago. And must be said the restaurants really have very good seafood. Following are a few photo's I made. But I see now that I could as well have used the photo's from last year as they look almost exactly the same.
