From your homestay
Non Na Pua overlooking the mountains of Doi Phu Kha in Nan province you do not realise that there are actually many small mountain village where Hmong, Tai Lue and Lua are living. One of that villages along route 1256 between Pua and Bo Klua, at about 900m high is a small mountain village called Ban Huai Nam Dun. What means something like the village at the beginning of the Dun river. This small village is build on the steep sloops of the mountain. The lowest point of the village is where there is a bridge crossing the small river. The houses high up in the village are probably about 50m to 80m higher as the lowest point in the village. I did walk a bit in the village but everybody was working, only a few chickens and 2 dogs did follow me. Walking down was easy but walking up was exhausting. Of course nowadays most people here have a car or motorbike and there is electricity but imagine living here 30 years ago without electricity. And without a car or motorbike. And probably without a good road going to the village. Following are a few photos of this picturesque village in the mountains of Nan province in North Thailand.
