Although I have already a serie about Thai Food in general and although Thai food is Typically Thai I hereby introduce a new serie What Did I eat today? Because many people ask me what I am eating after living in Thailand for more as 15 years. Well first of all I still not eat and never will eat spicy food. My taste buds are just not made for it. And I want my food to be dead but not too long dead. So that limits my Thai food. For breakfast I most times still eat western style, musli with yoghurt or bread. But for lunch or dinner I eat almost always Thai food.
So what did I eat?
Yesterday I did eat Khao Soi at a small restaurant near our house. Khao Soi is an originally Chinese dish but nowadays mostly served in North Thailand and Laos. Khao Soi is a soup-like dish with a curry-like sauce (soup) with coconut milk and served with chicken, deep-fried crispy egg-noodle and boiled egg-noodle. You can add to your taste pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime and grounded chillies. Khao Soi is a typically 1 dish food served in street restaurants for lunch. Highly recommended to try if you did never eat it before. It might be a little bit spicy.
Costs : Standard dish = 40 baht, Bigger dish = 45 baht (bigger piece of chicken)
Many people think it is a special dish from Chiang Mai but every place in North Thailand has a "best Khao Soi" restaurant. In Chiang Mai you can also eat the Myanmar version of Khao Soi.
