In July 2022, the raining season, there were a few days forecasted with not too much rain so I really needed to make a motorbike ride. But this is not about
Motorbike Riding in Thailand but about meeting an old & dear friend in Phayao in North Thailand. She is beautiful and her name is Kwan Phayao. Since medio 2000 I have been meeting her many times and I did fall in love with her. Kwan Phayao is a lake created in 1935. Before that the area of Phayao was a kind of swamp, in Thai called Kwan. But in 1935 the area was transformed to a lake by a dam in the Ingle River. Nowadays along the lake is a small provincial town that is of course also called Phayao. And this little town is famous for its very nice boulevard along Kwan Phayao where people enjoy their dinner and watch a beautiful sunset over the lake. And together with with many local Thai and Thai tourists that is what I also did. Western tourists are hardly coming to Phayao. Along the boulevard is a kind of park where people sit, eats & drink. So of course along the boulevard are many carts selling snacks and drinks. One of the famous snacks are the "dancing shrimps". Very young and small shrimps that you eat more or less alive with a lot of pepers.
I love the typically Thai way of life here in Phayao and if you are traveling in North Thailand I would recommend to stay a night in Phayao. Overnight I did stay again at
Baan Ma Good Hotel, clean, cheap and friendly staff. For more information about Phayao have a look at
Destination Travel Guide Phayao. Following are some photo's of the stunning vista's over Kwan Phayao with a sunset and incoming rain. Click on the photo to enlarge. If you like some help with organizing your holiday anywhere in Thailand send me an email at
